In the last couple of years, we have seen many 4th generation idols delve into acting. These idols show that their talents do not just end with the music scene but also in dramas too as they have brilliantly portrayed many characters that have led to an eruption of praises and compliments from fans. However, The thriller genre is not one that many idols have played roles in yet. And as such, we thought to share some male idols who would do well in this genre. Here are 5 4th generation male idols we believe will do well in a thriller K-Drama series.
1. TREASURE’s DoYoung
We were all left in awe by his amazing acting in “The Mysterious Class”. Anyone new to TREASURE and watching the web drama might think he was an actor and not an idol. His portrayal of his character was simply brilliant. He made us feel conflicting emotions throughout the series, which speaks to his talents too. At some point, it feels like you’re not watching DoYoung the idol but an actor who is playing the role of DoYoung, a fictional character in a series. His confidence, smart, impressive delivery of his lines, and amazing facial expressions make us feel he’d be great in a thriller series too. Perhaps playing the role of the son of a rich family, who’s pressured to live up to expectations and keep up with the public perception of being perfect, despite being mistreated constantly by his parents. He is shown no real love and hence he doesn’t know how to interact with people or make friends. A story with a redemptive arc, he shows that sometimes, your family cannot define who you are or ought to be.
2. BAE173’s Lee HanGyul
Lee HanGyul is one we have been championing to take on more roles in dramas as he oozes a level of potential to become an amazing acting-dol. With his role as TaeYang in “Love in Black Hole” he showed us glimpses of his budding talents. Frankly, there are many genres in which we believe he can do well and a thriller is one of them. In a thriller, he could either play the role of a villain with a redemption arc at the end, who wins over the rest of the characters and viewers with his bravery or play the supporting role of a friend to the hero, one who is the source of comic relief and adds color with his smarts and bright personality to the story. The villain or the comic, in any role, Lee HanGyul has the potential to deliver with excellence.
3. CIX’s Bae JinYoung
Bae JinYoung is another who had many impressed by his acting. In the series “User Not Found” he showed of his budding potential to be an actor. From his cool-like expressions, his delivery, and his ability to showcase his character’s emotions so precisely, he made a memorable mark in the hearts of fans who were proud of his work and calling for more roles in the future. As he seems to be delving further into acting, one of the genres we feel he could do really well in is a thriller. He has the charismatic presence and striking visuals that often fit this type of series. Possibly playing the supporting role of a young university student, who due to an unfortunate situation is thrown into the chaos of a murder case, or the son of a successful accountant, who is framed for a class action fraud case and this leads to a ripple effect of hate towards his family, who receives the rage of the public while also trying to find the real culprits.
4. THE BOYZ’s YoungHoon
Like many on this list, YoungHoon has already shown off his acting potential when he starred in the series “Love Revolution”. His character then was one that many gravitated to for his smartness, loyalty, and strong-willed nature. His acting garnered him a ton of compliments and appreciation as many were rightfully impressed by him. With that experience, we believe he also has the ability to tackle a role in a thriller drama too. Playing the character in a story surrounding 4 friends, who after passing their final exams decides to take a trip to their hometown for much-needed fresh air and recuperation. Their vacation is short-lived as they start to witness some changes in the people and environment. This doesn’t seem like the place they grew up in anymore. Seeking to find the root of the problem, they come across various mysterious and powerful figures looking to destroy the town for their financial gains.
5. DKZ’s JongHyeong
From various clips of his musical “EQUAL” shared on the internet, we can tell DKZ’s JongHyeong is an amazing actor and one who can also do well in a thriller drama. Perhaps in an episode of a crime thriller series like “The Good Detective”, he could play the role of a part-timer who has a Juvie record for a past mistake and because of that, he is the go-to suspect for anything bad that happens in the neighborhood, even when he is clearly innocent. Things take a turn for the worse when a murder happens near his place of work and he is pointed out as the main suspect yet again. Without a strong alibi, he is tagged as the culprit but thanks to a good policeman who investigates properly, he is proven innocent. Did you like our scenarios?
