Both dramas revolve around the idea of office romance, more specifically between a CEO and a passionate employee. “Business Proposal” is about Shin HaRi (played by Kim SeJeong), an employee at GoFood, who accidentally goes on a blind date with her CEO, Kang TaeMoo (Ahn HyoSeop). While “What Is Wrong With Secretary Kim?” is about Secretary Kim MiSo (played by Park MinYoung), who abruptly announces her resignation from her CEO Lee YoungJoon (Park SeoJun), it is then he realizes how much he needs her. Despite having different storylines, the two characters radiate the same vibe. They even have the same hairstyle! If you are in doubt about it, keep reading!
1. Both Kang TaeMoo and Lee YoungJoon Are Workaholic Bosses
In “Business Proposal”, Ahn HyoSeop’s character is the CEO while Park SeoJun’s character holds the position of Vice President, but both of them are young successful men who are devoted to their work. Both of them barely have time for anything else. Dating included. Though Park SeoJun’s character, YoungJoon, does have a girlfriend in the beginning. He is unwilling to compromise his schedule for her. Or shall we say, he is too busy to care. That is, of course, till Kim MiSo becomes his first priority. His workaholic behavior also becomes the reason why Kim MiSo wishes to run away from him.
2. Kang TaeMoo and YoungJoon Define Confidence
Both of them really know their worth. They are aware of the qualities they have and do not hesitate to admit it. In episode 1, Kang TaeMoo speaks about himself about how young and successful he is and also being handsome on top of it. And that any woman would want him. So when he is rejected by Shin GeumHee (Kim SeJeong), he is surprised and even asks her for the reason. Because he clearly saw no fault in himself. Similarly, viewers are familiar with YoungJoon’s ‘Aura’. He knows that he is one of a kind, and the most handsome. He loves himself so much that he falls into his own reflection every time. YoungJoon, too, gets confused about why Secretary Kim rejects his marriage proposal initially. For who would reject them?
3. Both Are Determined To Marry The One
In “Business Proposal”, Kang TaeMoo becomes determined to marry Shin GeumHee after one date. Even after being rejected many times, he declares the same intention. After finding the truth about her, he is still interested. Seeing how he is unimpressed by any other lady that he goes on a blind date with. He even accepts that no one was as fun to hangout with, unlike her. Then, after some time, when he is further convinced that he does indeed like her. He does everything to have her. Be it being her fake boyfriend to impress her ‘friends’ or renting a full cinema hall for just two of them. Likewise, in “What is Wrong With Secretary Kim?” YoungJoon declares his will to marry Secretary Kim. She rejects him over and over again, but he is determined to convince and win her heart. Just so she stays.
4. Jealousy
‘“You just seem to lose your calm when Ms.Shin is involved.” - Cha SungHoon (Kim MinGue) from “Business Proposal.” It is amusing to see both of them lose their cool whenever the female lead is on the scene. Especially with another man! Beginning with “Business Proposal” episode 5, when Kang TaeMoo finds out the truth about Shin HaRi. He also realizes that the man she was in love with for seven years was MinWoo (played by Song WonSeok). Kang TaeMoo is then irked when he sees Shin HaRi with him in the cafeteria. He could not tear his gaze from them, whilst glaring. Oh and we can never forget that eye twitch! Likewise, K-Drama fans have not forgotten the iconic jealousy scene of Lee YoungJoon during the sports event. Never had he ever attended the event before. Park SeoJun had us rolling over the floor with his comic style of showing YoungJoon’s jealousy. Just because Kim MiSo was paired up with another office colleague for a three-legged race. Kim MiSo, on top of that, seemed very casual and at ease with him. Every time both of them touch, YoungJoon would jump off his chair. Poor guy was doing everything to contain himself!
5. Both Of Them Have A Dark Past
In both dramas, there is a mystery withheld about their past. The viewers are given a hint or a stimulus that triggers their past. For Kang TaeMoo, it is the rain and for YoungJoon it was a female touch. Whenever both of them encounter these stimuli, they experience a panic attack. In episode 6 of “Business Proposal”, when it begins to rain on their way back. Kang TaeMoo immediately stops the car and orders Shin HaRi to exit. But as soon as the rain ends, he runs to her again. Similarly, in “What Is Wrong With Secretary Kim?” YoungJoon was unable to even kiss MiSo because of his phobia. Both characters are extremely interesting. Being the perfect boss to the perfect boyfriend, Kang TaeMoo and Lee YoungJoon definitely win the race. Do you see these similarities between them?
