There are K-Pop fans across the globe who share the same passion. But on online platforms, it is hard to know about each other’ stories and K-Pop life. Even if we are in the same fandom, it is hard to get to know each other. So at Kpopmap, we started the Kpopmap Fan Interview Project to get to know more about K-Pop fans from different countries: more about their K-Pop life and tastes and to give them the opportunity to share with our readers about their favorite group(s) and bias. Alaïs is the next fan to answer our questions. She is from France living in Canada and is a fan of SEVENTEEN and more particularly of Joshua! Check out how she entered the fandom, the songs and content she advises to new fans, and much more! Can you introduce yourself? Where are you from? My name is Alaïs. I’m a French girl living in Canada How and when did you enter the fandom? I first saw Seventeen during Weverse Con. I loved their energy on stage! What are the reasons why you love your favorite group? They always cheer me up! They are the funniest people ever. Also, no matter how I feel, they always seem to have a song that can match my mood. Who caught your attention at first and why? Joshua! He looked so sweet and gentle. Also Hoshi, because he was talking a lot (about tigers in particular !). Who is your bias, and why? It’s Joshua. He is so nice with his members and fans. But I also love his more goofy side during the “Going Seventeen” games ! I also think that his voice is really soothing. And I could listen to him talking in English all day long! Can you recommend a title track and a B-side track for new fans? For the title track, I would recommend ‘Ready to love’. And for the B-side, I’m a huge fan of ‘Kidult’ and ‘Our dawn is hotter than day’. I also recommend to check on SEVENTEEN Japanese’s songs ! They are amazing (more particularly ‘Fallin’ Flower’ and ‘Happy ending’). Can you recommend a fancam, V Live, cover video, cover dance, or individual content video of your bias to our readers? Joshua ‘Left & Right’ fancam is a must-see! It’s a really good example of how charming he is. Can you also do the same type of recommendation for the group? Well first of all, people should definitely watch “Going Seventeen”. Every episode is so funny, but I really love the Debate night! I also recommend Seventeen ‘Left & right’ Part Switch ver. It’s funny to see the members imitating each other ! Can you share with us one of your favorite lyrics? “My heart is overflowing with these cliché words I haven’t said them to you because I was worried they wouldn’t sound sincere Rather than saying a simple “Thank you” I’ve been searching for prettier words So I haven’t been able to thank you” - From the song ‘Thanks’ Are there any words from the members you would like to share? Joshua talking about SEVENTEEN new song, ‘Darl+ing’ : “It’s like a gift to our CARATs, because all our international fans, even though they may not understand Korean, love us for who we are and love our music so much, so we just wanted to make a song they can easily listen to and understand.” Interview here. It really shows the mutual love between CARATs and SEVENTEEN. What is your favorite group/bias’ influence on your daily life? They bring me happiness! There’s not a day without me smiling thanks to SEVENTEEN. As for Joshua, he has a really calming influence on me. I’m really thankful for that! What is your favorite side of fangirling/fanboying? The community! I really love CARATs! Especially, I love collecting photocards and I met so many great people through that. It’s really amazing to find that many people who share the same interest as you. Do you feel there are any misunderstandings, things that are not well known, or any prejudices about your favorite group from other fans (non-fans)? First, I think a lot of people tend to be discouraged to stan SEVENTEEN as it’s a group with “many members”. I was the same at the beginning ! But you’ll see that the members’ charming personalities makes it easy to know who is who. I also see that a lot of people think that SEVENTEEN only do bright concepts. That’s not the case ! For example ‘Fear’ is really far from a bright concept! Thank you for answering our questions, Alaïs.
