The timeline in consideration for each article will be the span of 7 days, from Fridays to Thursdays. The Weekly Ranker article will be published every Friday. In the case of this article, we will look at releases from 16th September 2022 to 22nd September 2022. Note: This ranker will not be based solely on the commercial success or popularity of the releases. However, we will open a poll at the end of each article where you can vote for the best release of the week. The best releases from each week will be compiled in a monthly article based only on your votes. Here are the top 5 K-Pop releases from the 3rd week of September!
1. BLACKPINK - ‘Shut Down’
BLACKPINK is officially back, and they’re dominating charts worldwide with ‘Shut Down’. Sampling Paganini’s “La Campanella” and turning a classic into a modern masterpiece, these powerful women know exactly what they’re doing, and they do it with grace. ‘Shut Down’ is definitely going down in K-Pop history as a golden moment.
2. The Rose - ‘Childhood’
The Rose’s latest pre-release single, ‘Childhood’, ahead of their first full-length album, is nothing short of a cinematic work of art. It signals a new beginning for The Rose as they embrace a fresh innocence and explore the depths of expression that have remained latent for too long. The song is written, composed, and arranged by The Rose and features their characteristic emphatic vocals, which makes this song universally resonant.
3. GOT7’s Jay B - ‘go UP’
Jay B continues his experimental streak with ‘go UP’, bringing us the pop-funk track we’ve been waiting for. It has all the bounce and charm of iconic funk artists like Bruno Mars, redefined by Jay B’s own unique colour. This is the song of the season, and it needs to be celebrated in all its glory. Jay B is a master of genres, and this song just goes to prove that the possibilities are endless when it comes to his solo music. Always expect the unexpected and be pleasantly surprised!
4. NMIXX - ‘Dice’
NMIXX has done it again. The group defies genres with ‘Dice’, and the attempt is much more than successful - it is spectacular. NMIXX’s music usually feels like a carnival of diverse sounds that follow a coherent thread, and ‘Dice’ is no different. If NMIXX continues with this, they might just carve out a brand new sub-genre in K-Pop which will shape future generations to come.
5. Crush - ‘Rush Hour’ ft. BTS’ J-Hope
Crush and J-Hope collaborating on a song is a K-Pop/K-Indie lover’s dream come true. They’re both prominent, outstanding artists of their respective genres, and ‘Rush Hour’ is a wonderful display of their creative excellence. It is groovy, nostalgic, and a whole lot of fun. The old-school hip-hop influences, references to BTS’ ‘Mic Drop’ and TNX’s ‘Move’ (Crush and TNX are labelmates), and the addictive dynamic between Crush and J-Hope make this song an absolute bop.
